the Project |

What is it about moving objects that so
fascinates us?
From the time
we are infants, we humans are delighted by clockworks, wind-ups,
whirligigs, and anything that “goes”. Artists, engineers
and designers also understand that there is beauty in machinery
– elegance in movement.
The Holland Area Arts Council would like to bring that delight
in movement to a new level. We want to challenge the community
to a Kinetic Art competition which will celebrate the ingenuity
that our area has become known for. We challenge you to create
a moving piece of art which operates by hand, gravity, wind, water,
the sun, small motor or other creative power source. Remember
- this is the Arts Council - so be Artisitic!
This contest and Exhibition will be open to all ages. Invitations
to participate are going out to schools, designers, engineers,
corporations, manufacturers as well as individual artists. We
want everyone to be involved.
The chosen works will be on exhibit in the Arts Council’s
Padnos Gallery for the entire summer of 2010. Submissions will
be accepted through April 23, 2010. Videos of the work in motion
will be greatly appreciated, because we will post all of the entries
on our web site during the exhibit – to showcase just how
clever west Michiganders can be.
